The section on following through with consequences is gold.
Consistency isn’t just about getting my teen to obey—it’s about modeling integrity and teaching them that our words matter
and their choices have real consequences. Every parent
of teens needs this reminder.”

Hello—I'm Teresa!
I’m the founder of Joy and Grace Families, and I help Christian parents of teenagers and young adults experience more smiles, cooperation, love, and respect—and less bad attitudes and conflict—so they can raise their kids to be spiritually healthy, happy, resilient, purposeful, caring adults.
But it hasn’t always been this way…
As a mom of both biological and adopted kids, plus a foster mom, I thought love and basic parenting know-how would be enough. Instead, I found myself facing arguing, yelling, disrespect, and serious challenges including learning disabilities, defiance, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. The standard advice felt wholly inadequate to bring about the heart-level changes we longed to see in the kids in our home.
Things only changed when I refused to settle for “good enough” advice. I dove into the research, connected with other parents walking the same road, and finally found professionals who actually understood what we were going through.
Slowly, my parenting began to shift. I leaned harder into my faith. I found tools that really worked to navigate the challenges we were facing. And little by little, my kids started responding differently. Our home became more peaceful. The conflict lessened. And today, I’m grateful to enjoy wonderful relationships with all four of my adult children who have grown into happy, responsible, caring adults.
I created this guide because I want to be for you what I wished I’d had during those difficult years—a guide who understands not just the theory, but the reality.
See you inside!
