Joy and Grace Families Coaching
Through Joy and Grace Families, I offer compassionate, confidential, family-transforming coaching from a Christian worldview for parents, couples, teens, and young adults. If you are going through a difficult time in your family, you don’t have to keep struggling along on your own. I love helping families get out of frustration and discouragement, find new perspectives, gain momentum, and make progress in their lives and relationships.
Coaching for Parents
Everyone needs some help sometimes! Parenting teens and young adults in today’s world is hard! You can be a great parent and still have kids who are really struggling. It is easy to get discouraged and overwhelmed.
All of us as parents have unique challenges. Having an outside perspective and authentic, reliable, caring support from a coach that has been there herself makes a huge difference. Whether you are having significant challenges with one of your children or are just wanting to be the best parent you can be, parent coaching can help!
Parent coaching assists you in navigating difficult behaviors and relationship dynamics, learning how to better communicate with your kids, identifying and enforcing healthy expectations and consequences, and overcoming relationship ruts and negative cycles to turn conflict into connection. Additionally, it helps you have the support you need in your own life, so that you can be the best parent possible for your kids and have family interactions full of joy and grace!
Coaching for Teens and Young Adults
It is no secret that teens and young adults today are struggling! Through Joy and Grace Families coaching, I provide a safe, supportive place for individuals in their teens and twenties to process their emotions, work through challenges, and gain new skills and insight that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
Through the coaching process, I give teens and young adults space to be seen and heard. I help them peel back the layers to explore their thoughts and beliefs, to challenge and stretch themselves, and to discover their next steps. This empowers them to be motivated and confident and enables them to overcome their own resistance and reach their full potential. Coaching gives the opportunity to grow in their understanding of themselves and in their value, as well as in relationship and communication skills, resilience, self-discipline, problem-solving, and building a life of purpose and meaning.
So many negative, unhealthy messages and influences exist in our world today. It is crucial that our teens and young adults have positive voices and mentors in their lives that will foster healthy family relationships and encourage their faith. Through Joy and Grace Families teen and young adult coaching, I am committed to providing life-changing coaching to teens and young adults, while helping families improve their relationships and live out their faith with joy and grace!
Coaching for Couples
Are you experiencing a specific challenge in your relationship or is your relationship not where you would like it to be? Are you having trouble getting on the same page with your spouse in your parenting? Maybe you are not even sure if it is possible for things to really be good in your relationship again.
Your relationship as a couple is so important and affects all areas of your family life. Parenting teens and young adults can often bring additional stress and conflict into relationships. It is easy to get discouraged and just muddle through, putting your relationship on the back burner. Joy and Grace couples coaching can help you grow in understanding of yourself and your spouse, identify underlying issues, and break negative cycles. Through the coaching process, you can overcome past hurts, improve your communication skills, learn to appreciate each other more, and nurture your relationship for continued growth.
Additionally, we can work together to help you agree on your current parenting approach and ways to support each other better in your family interactions. As you become stronger as a couple, you will be able to provide your teens and young adults with a healthier family dynamic and experience and model more joy and grace in your relationship!
The Joy and Grace Families coaching program is . . .
Distinctly Christian. The programs of Joy and Grace Families are designed specifically for families who are looking for support from a Christian worldview.
Personalized. Your one-on-one coaching session will be personalized to fit your specific goals and priorities. I understand that each person and family is unique, and I will take time to ask questions to understand you, your relationship dynamics, and your circumstances. And then, we will partner together to find an individualize plan that will work for you, your family, and your situation.
Results-Focused. We will walk through the process of determining what specific results and changes you want to accomplish through our work together, and then we will strategically work toward these. At the end of each session, we will circle back to discuss progress and any specific next steps.
Encouraging. Coaching sessions are a non-judgmental, confidential space to freely explore and process your situation and discover new strategies and skills. I approach coaching with compassion and understanding. My goal is that you will always come away from our time together feeling refreshed, encouraged, and inspired.
Flexible. Coaching is available through video conferencing for maximum flexibility regardless of where you live. Additionally, clients in the Kansas City area can request to meet in person if that works best for them. Since it is sometimes very helpful to be able to schedule an extra appointment on short notice when a difficult situation arises, clients are welcome to request short-notice appointments and are worked in as soon as possible. Coaching is available for parents, teenagers, and young adults. So, if you are experiencing relationship issues with your child and it would be helpful to meet with both you and your child, together or separately, I am happy to do that.
Affordable. At Joy and Grace Families, we know that coaching can be extremely valuable, so it is important to us to keep rates low to be accessible to more people. Sessions last 50-minutes and current pricing is only $75 for weekday sessions and $90 for sessions that are scheduled on weekdays after 5 p.m. or on weekends.
What is the difference between coaching and counseling or therapy?
Life coaching is a unique service that differs in its focus and approach from counseling or therapy.
Counselors and therapists are mental health professionals licensed by the state to diagnose and treat mental illness and emotional disorders. Coaches, on the other hand, do not diagnose or treat disorders although they can help you learn to cope with living with a disorder. While there is some overlap, counselors tend to focus on healing disorders and past emotional trauma, while coaches tend to be more action and future-oriented, focusing on changing unhelpful mindsets, overcoming challenges, and making a step-by-step plan to enable you to achieve what you want in the future.
Coaches help you process emotions and situations and find both short- and long-term solutions for growth and personal or professional success. Coaches work with you to clarify your priorities and identify obstacles and problematic behaviors and mindsets, create a plan to achieve desired results, and then stay focused and motivated to follow through. Coaching can be used in conjunction with therapy and counseling or can be an alternative to therapy or counseling.
At Joy and Grace Families, I utilize blended coaching, which means that I offer traditional coaching combined with mentoring to provide clients with new insight, perspectives, and skills.
Is a family coach the same as a parent coach?
Family coaching involves parent coaching but also much more. Joy and Grace Families approaches coaching from a wholistic perspective. This means that we acknowledge that many times an issue in one area of life or family relationship can cause challenges in other areas. Joy and Grace Families offers comprehensive parent coaching, couples coaching, and teen and young adult life coaching. We are committed to exploring the full picture and all the contributing factors because we know that no relationship exits in isolation. Our desire is for Christian families with teens and young adults to experience more joy and grace in all areas of life.

Client Testimonials
“Teresa was absolutely terrific in coaching my teenage daughter and I through the communication skills to keep our relationship in tact and growing toward her eventual launch into adulthood! Teresa was a great listener and, at the same time, my daughter and I were both able to learn so much from her words of wisdom and put her ideas to practical use in our everday interactions with each other. I can finally see a light at the end after years of struggling with my teen! Thank you, Teresa! My daughter and I actually love spending time together now!”
“Teresa opened up a whole new world for my husband and me. She is a wonderful listener and helped me see things
from a different perspective and celebrate the small victories. I would highly recommend her.”
“Teresa is a God-send! This past year has been very difficult relating to my teenage daughter. Teresa has helped me see a different perspective, take responsibility for what is in my control and to release what is not in my control. She is very knowledgable and is a great resource. I hightly recommend her!”
“Teresa has been such a blessing to my young adult daughter! Just over a year ago, my daughter was struggling so much with anxiety and lack of confidence that she didn’t feel like she would be able to work any job that wasn’t work-from-home. Now, she has a wonderful in-office job and so many awesome friends. In addition, she is jumping into so many new activities that previously would have been completely out of her comfort zone. The availability of Teresa and the guidance she has given to my daughter has truly been life changing!”
“Using a step-by-step game plan, Teresa taught me effective strategies for navigating my relationship with my adult son still living at home and the parenting complications associated with old patterns of relating in my marriage. She didn’t dwell on the past and how things got so messed up but focused on the future and how to put together a plan to move forward and make progress. She has unique insight into using language, words, and tone of voice to bring change in the relationship. She is extremely knowledgable and selflessly shares her many resources gathered from her own experience and her training.”
“Honestly working with you was wonderful and exactly what we needed….You got us both from literally at divorcing to having hope and promise for the future. I especially enjoyed how you actually truely cared about us and our future….We would probably be separated and filed for divorce without your help.”
